TITI FINLAY EXHIBITION - NEW ORLEANS (from 20th April 2013)

I am a painter and muralist currently based in Dundee, Scotland. After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in May 2012 in Jewellery & Metal Design, I decided to go back to what I am good at: Painting and drawing. I currently work from home and tend to specialise in relatively large-scale paintings. I like to paint on MDF wood using acryllic paint. This has a lovely vibrant look to it. The wood soaks in the paint making the overall painting look richer and fuller in colour, and has a really pleasing and smooth outcome.

I have recently taken the opportunity to start working on mural design. I have just finished working on a mural at a private gym in Kent and I am currently designing pieces for a local restaurant in Dundee city centre. I am relatively new to this and still have a lot to learn, but I love to work on a big scale so this type of work is really enjoyable for me.

My current collection of paintings is based on a recent trip I took to New Orleans, Louisiana for Mardi Gras this February. I have always enjoyed jazz music, being a musician myself, but I was particularly inspired by the jazz culture in New Orleans. No matter what time of day or night it is, you can ALWAYS hear someone playing jazz. It’s everywhere you go, and it’s such an overwhelming atmosphere - especially during Mardi Gras where there is so much colour and energy. Having experienced real jazz music first hand in New Orleans I gained a new understanding of the vibrancy and life created by these sounds, and i have tried to reflect this in my paintings.

I work mostly on commission so please do not hesitate to ask about or request a painting! I hope you enjoy the exhibition!
