2014 Limited Edition Art Calendar in aid of Maggie's Dundee

Background:

To mark the tenth anniversary of Maggie’s Centre in Dundee, a fund raising art competition was organised by Irving Miskell-Reid in association with the DCA's Print Studio.  Entrants were invited to submit original artwork for a commemorative 2014 calendar, with 13 being chosen to feature in one of the months of the year (plus front cover).  The closing date for entries was 10 August 2012.  Entrants were all members of the DCA Print Studio.

“The idea of a calendar came to me when I was visiting Maggie’s Centre — and saw amazing artwork on display in the wonderful Frank Gehry designed building — and the range of cards the Centre sells to raise funds. The idea is that twelve pieces of original artwork will be chosen by a panel of judges to be used in the calendar. The high profile panel comprised Philip Long, the Director of the V&A in Dundee, Andy Taylor, ex-course director in Textiles and Fashion at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Pat Fisher, curator of the Talbot Rice Gallery, University of Edinburgh, internationally-renowned artist Scott Myles and Norma Starszakowna, Professor of Research in Art, Architecture and Design at the University of Lincoln.

The thirteen winning images appear in alphabetical order (artists first name)

The original prints will be auctioned and individual reproduction prints of each piece of artwork will also be sold to raise funds for Maggie’s at a special event in September 2013.  Dundee is such a creative place with amazing talent, it seemed fitting that the original artwork should be included in a calendar.

The DCA put their Print Studio and Screen Printing studio at our disposal, which was fantastic. I’m also so pleased that the judges have so willingly agreed to give up their time for such a great cause. And the local artists who have entered so far are so excited that their work will be viewed by such a high calibre panel of judges. They’re much more interested in getting their work in the calendar to raise funds for Maggie’s than in winning the £500 we have put up as prize money,” Irving Miskell-Reid said.

Sponsorship

During the Autumn months we contacted local business to ask them to support this great cause - by sponsoring a page of the calendar.  We are so delighted that each page of the calendar has now been sponsored.  The support of local business, as always, has been fantastic.  The sponsorship will now fund the production of the calendar, meaning every penny from the sale of the calendar will go direct to Maggie's.
