Having based by decision to go to Freedom Hairdressing on the strength of the website testimonials, I felt it only right I did my own! I am a 45 year old woman and my Mum still likes to comment on my hair cut! "Keep it off your face", tie it back", pull it up this way", "oh that makes your face look thinner" amongst other suggestions. So yesterday I talked to Irving about my mothers' concerns and with his help and a great haircut, my mother said YES she approved! I have been going along to Freedom Hair now for over 3 years, since going to a charity event where Irving and his team transformed my husband's hairsytle!   When Irving asked if I had been onto the website, I had to admit, no!  So, here's me thinking my hair made me look so far he was asking me to model - but no!  However, I am pleased to say I love my hairstyle.  Every style and colour has been great.  All the staff are so lovely.  I take our two daughters to get their hair cut also.  The time and patience of the team is tremendous.  The girls find it any enjoyable experience (with the added bonus of a lollipop!).  Sharon Muirhead

Just to say a big thank you to all at Freedom, I really enjoyed my visit to the salon!  Everyone was so friendly and professional.  It was great to visit a salon where I didn't get told off for colouring my own hair and cutting my fringe!  At Freedom I got the princess treatment instead. I am writing regarding my visit to the salon today (May 2011) and my hairdresser was Kelsey. I would just like to advise that I found the service to be excellent! Kelsey took the time to sit down and discuss what I wanted to do with my style, she kept me informed, the staff were very kind in attending to my needs, asking if I wished for tea or coffee. The price was very reasonable and students get a discount which I was delighted with. Kelsey did a great job in cutting and styling my hair and I'd like this to be passed on to management/salon owner. It was perfect and exactly what I'd asked for. Just a quick note to say thank you all at Freedom and Freedom too. Before my visits to your salons my hair was becoming increasingly dry and frizzy and bad hair days were becoming the norm.  Irving and Mary suggested a new cut and then giving it the permanent blow dry treatment.  Having stuck to the same low maintenance hair cut for years, initially I was a bit concerned that this might involve extra work on my part to maintain the new style.  This has not been the case at all, the frizz has gone and my hair now does what I want it to without the need for any straighteners etc. 

My second visit was to have my hair coloured and I was happy and confident to ask Mary to choose the colour and highlights for me.  She matched my colouring perfectly and the end result has brought back colours I haven't seen in years since it started to fade and lose its own natural colours. Everyone has commented on my hair and I love its new style and vitality.  All the staff make a special effort to make you feel relaxed and comfortable and the way they work together is really impressive.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Freedom and Freedom Too to anyone looking for new ideas or something a bit special.  Lorraine Harrison

I was delighted when I discovered Freedom Hairdressing. Having had my share of inconsistent and frustrating hairdressing experiences, it was great to find a salon where standards are consistently high. The team are always most helpful and friendly. From making your appointment to paying the bill, Irving and team are unfailingly courteous and professional.  Every aspect of the salon has been given careful consideration to create a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere for the customer even down to the music that is played!

However the haircut is what really counts and this is where Freedom excels. I have received many compliments about my hair since I started coming to Freedom. Irving is a true master cutter; taking time and great care with every customer to create a style that works for them. Additionally Irving always has a wealth of contemporary creative ideas, should you wish to change your look.  Not only does the cut and colour look great in the salon but it looks good when I do it myself- the sign of a great cut.

Dear Irving,  I am writing to say thank you for helping me so much as my hair grew back after chemotherapy for breast cancer.  I have gone from a brunette bob pre-chemo to a short sharp grey crop and am delighted with the result.  'Think of it as a work in progress' you said when I came to you when my hair needed it's first cut after it started to grow back - you somehow managed to cut and shape it without making it any shorter and have explained how to manage it then, and at each stage of the 'work in progress' since.  After cut number three it is looking great!  You are very good at working out what look suits which face. I think you must be great teacher for your apprentices as you are so obviously keen to explain everything you are doing.  You are also a great advocate for the City of Dundee and a very useful restaurant critic! I wish I had found Irving and his team when I moved to this area over four years ago.  Finally, I have found the 'whole package'.  I've visited many salons over the years in different areas of Scotland, but never have I found a salon that I just can't praise highly enough.  The whole experience is a relaxing one, but very quickly you realise these people are highly professional and skilled in what they do and what they can provide.  For the first time in many years, I love my cut, colour, my hair condition, colour and style - and it's always being commented on.  The cut suits my face shape, the colour is just righ and that has only come about because I felt able to trust Irving's invaluable advice.  You can see the precision cut, you can see the colours that work so well together and I am absolutely delighted that because of my cut, my hair falls into place every time I blow dry.  It doesn't stop there either!  Irving has shown me how to create different looks from the same cut.  He really takes his time to help you feel confident that you can achieve the same look at home and demonstrates blow-drying techniques to help me do this.  This type of service is rare and worth it's weight in gold.  I just want to pass on my thanks to Irving and his team for going above and beyond. It was yet another bad hair day, one of many for me.  My cut was wrong and my colour was too dull and ageing.  I decided to book an appointment at Freedom Hairdressing.  Irving cut my unruly frizzy hair into shape and style - and completely transformed me.  We selected a colour and the colourist got busy, working very skillfully.  Two hours later I walked out feeling delighted and for the first time in months was able to wash and style my hair - my new trouble-free haircut looked alive and flattering.  I shall continue to go to Freedom Hairdressing in future.  My hair has given me a new found freedom.  The staff are very friendly and the teamwork in the salon is amazing.  Anon

My visit to Freedom Hair was in October 2009.  The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming with well trained staff that put me at ease.  My hair has always been very difficult for me to manage and has always had a 'mind of its own'.  During my consultation with Irving he listened carefully and asked questions.  He gave me excellent advice about cut, style and colour.  Since having my hair cut and styled by Irving, the difference is unbelievable.  I have received lots of compliments from colleagues, friends and most importantly, my husband! In all my 52 years, I have never been so pleased and happy with my hair than when I started going to see Irving last April 2008. Whenever I was first greeted at the salon I was made to feel welcome, and special, by Irving and his staff.  He is a hairdresser who listens and cares.  My hair is so easy for me to look after now, it just falls into place, and believe me I have a lot of hair, poker straight and always difficult for hairdressers in the past, now it needs hardly any time in the morning, and that girls, we know is important!  It looks and feels healthy and soft, he gave me a style which suits my face shape (and that is no mean feat), he helped when I needed a bit of cover up after an operation.  I just can't praise Irving and his staff enough.  I'm looking forward to the next visit, I know I'm going to feel good from the minute I walk into the salon. Many months ago I walked into Freedom, with apprehension, and a sense of entrapment. Bound by others expectations, and held by grief I looked in a mirror and saw nothing - no reflection, an non-entity. This hopeless person needed more than a hair change, what could change me? As I have returned on several occasions, the gradual change in my hairstyle has changed my life. How did this occur? The interest, consultations have not only enriched my hair but taken account of my past and present situation, and also taken account of me, the person. Suddenly I could see myself in the mirror. I was a person not only a carer, I now have an identity. The personal interest, education and encouragement has enabled me to see a way forward.  The aim of this salon is not only to achieve a nice cut, style and money in the till, but to increase understanding of self and how to cope with change. The integrity of the owner and staff reflect the continuity of team work, a rare thing. The way Irving listens, reaches decisions relating to what is best for the person, is also reflected in staff who work with clients. To conclude, this change not only gave my hair a new style, it gave my life a new direction, including a realisation, eg.
